City center of Almere
Almere’s city center was designed by Rem Koolhaas (OMA) and is very striking, very modern, and very eclectic. More than 400 shops that include big brands like ZARA, Esprit, and Hugo Boss, wide pedestrian precincts and big, roomy stores. Our new ‘stadshart’ has already won various international architecture awards for new shopping malls and is one of the largest in The Netherlands. It is very accessible and has lots and lots of parking space – and it’s open seven days a week (Sundays from 12:00)!
Almere has various shopping centers spread throughout the city and in the various neighborhoods. The zone centers of Almere Buiten and Almere Haven are basically just full of shops while in amongst the houses in the various neighborhoods there are supermarkets, local health centers and various other small shops. This means that there is usually a grocery store or a bakery or such, nearby.
Country Estate The Kemphaan
There is a ‘farmer’s market’ at the Kemphaan every Saturday from 09:30 – 13:00. Here you can buy biologically cultivated items such as potatoes, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bread, meat, dried foods, and plants and flowers.
De Kemphaan also hosts the rescue center for exotic mammals (AAP foundation), a restaurant, and the country estate shop.
